Jay Stansfield’s breath-taking form in front of goal maintained the Under-18s’ unbeaten season against a plucky Norwich side on Saturday afternoon.

Tenacious Norwich Downed By Stansfield's Finishing

Saturday 2 November 2019 13:56

Main Action:

Jay Stansfield’s breath-taking form in front of goal maintained the Under-18s’ unbeaten season against a plucky Norwich side on Saturday afternoon.

The Young Whites dominated the ball in the blustery conditions and it only took four minutes to open the scoring. Stansfield played a nice interchange with Jean-Pierre Tiehi as a square pass allowed the free-scoring forward to find the net again.

The Canaries hit back quickly. Josh Giurgi rode a couple of challenges to squeeze a shot into the bottom corner. The goal rattled the boys somewhat as Norwich flew into challenges with purpose and started to build a head of steam. However, the quality shone through as Sylvester Jasper jinked his way inside to curl a superb effort into the top corner.

Stansfield again found the net with his knack of being in the right place at the right time. Connor McAvoy lofted a ball back into the mix following a corner as Stansfield arrived to prod home.

The visitors weren’t done yet. Tom Dickson-Peters curled a peach of a free kick into the corner to make it five goals in 23 first half minutes. Norwich were attempting to recreate the thrilling game at the reverse fixture as Giurgi somehow spooned wide with the goal at his mercy.

The score line was equal to that of the game in Norwich as Tyrese Omotoye ran the channel to place an effort across Mac Chisholm. The lads weren’t content with their unusual lax defending as they came flying out of the traps. Tiehi was scythed to the floor giving Stansfield a chance for his third hat trick in three games. He duly obliged.

Stansfield again wriggled his way into a finishing zone to lift a clever finish into the corner. Goal number 17 for the season. There was still life in a Norwich side that floundered at the foot of the table. Omotoye narrowly missed the far corner from the starting position of the ground.

Some better game management than was produced in the first half made for a more comfortable final 20 minutes to see out another excellent win.

What That Means:

With only one other league game being played today, the Under-18s move three points clear at the top of the table after Chelsea weren’t in action.

Notable Talking Points:

  • Stansfield now has 17 goals this season including 11 goals in his last three league games. Remarkable.
  • The win takes the boys to 25 points which surpasses the tally amassed in the whole of last season.
  • After nine games, the Under-18s’ record stands at eight wins and a draw.
