Talking Points: Hull City

Monday 13 January 2020 15:30

Five things we've been discussing in the office after Fulham's 1-0 victory at Hull City...

1. First win at the KCOM

Hull City away hasn’t been a prosperous ground for Fulham since the Tigers moved there in 2002/03. Our first four trips all ended in defeat – including one which we have all tried to eradicate from our memories – before we secured a first ever point in December 2017. And so it was pleasing to get that particular monkey off our back on Saturday, with three points in our pocket as we made the long journey home.

2. Good week for Cav

It was an excellent seven days for Ivan Cavaleiro. After making his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers permanent on Tuesday, he then went and hit a fabulous winner at the weekend, before claiming the Club’s Man of the Match award on the Monday.

3. Anxious wait on Mitro

The only blemish from Saturday’s win was seeing Aleksandar Mitrović stretchered off after picking up an ankle injury. “It doesn’t look great,” Scott Parker said. “He’s injured himself pretty badly. It looks like he's twisted his ankle and he’s struggling at the moment.” All fingers will be crossed as we wait to find out the extent of the damage.

4. Take advantage

Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion are on runs of one win in six and one win in seven, respectively. If Fulham are to gatecrash the automatic spots, we need to be taking advantage of such blips, just like we did at the weekend.

5. Home fans’ malaise

When Hull had the ball in the net at the end of stoppage time, their fans closest to the away end were so keen to celebrate to the travelling faithful that they neglected to spot the lineman’s raised flag. It led to an unusual situation of both sets of fans celebrating relentlessly, until gradually the Tigers supporters became aware that their one point was actually none.
