Fulham produced an electric display to pick up a 5-3 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on a beautiful afternoon in SW6.

Fulham produced an electric display to pick up a 5-3 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on a beautiful afternoon in SW6.

A rampant Fulham side were in fine form from the first minute. A first half Aleksandar Mitrović brace, after Neeskens Kebano had opened the scoring in the 11th minute, saw the encounter over before the half-time whistle. After the visitors pulled one back early in the second half, Kebano struck again in the 73rd minute before the Owls clawed their way back to get within one before Bobby De Cordova-Reid struck to seal the deal.

Scott Parker made five changes from the side that drew with West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night. With the automatic places seemingly out of touch, the Head Coach gave a well-earned rest to Joe Bryan, Denis Odoi, Harrison Reed, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Ivan Cavaleiro. In their place came Cyrus Christie, Maxime Le Marchand, Stefan Johansen, Neeskens Kebano & Harry Arter.

It was a beautiful day by Thames as the referee got the match up and running. A match with increased significance with Brentford and West Brom both losing prior to our fixture.

In the 11th minute we took the lead courtesy of a superb solo goal from Kebano. After some neat work at the back to play out from the back, Michael Hector pinged a perfect ball out to the left flank. The ball eluded Moses Odubajo by inches, and after controlling the ball with a sublime first touch, the Congolese winger cut inside with a burst of speed. After working some space he unleashed a pinpoint strike into the bottom left hand corner past Joe Wildsmith. A brilliant goal from Neeskens, who has been in good form as of late.

In the 17th minute we came close to grabbing a second. A Fulham side in a confident mood surged forward. Another cross-field ball, this time from left to right found Christie. The powerful fullback cut inside and rifled an effort on target from a tight angle. Wildsmith was alert and parried the effort clear.

In the 26th minute we grabbed our second goal of the match. A wonderful team goal flowing from the back all the way forward, culminating in an expert finish from Mitro. After working the ball across the back four, a clever pass was threaded through the Owls' press into the feet of an unmarked Josh Onomah. With the visitors scrambling to get back Mitrović ghosted into the box and was picked out. With a lot of work to do from a difficult angle the Serbian arrowed one across and into the far corner. A delightful team goal.

We were rampant now and Onomah almost got into the act with a stinging half-volley just inside the box.

We kept coming and in the 39th minute we were awarded a penalty. Kebano, who had been a livewire for the entire first half spun his man expertly just inside the box. Dominic Iorfa was beaten with ease and in desperation flung out and leg and clattered Neeskens over. Mitro stepped up and smashed the spot-kick straight down the middle. The match seemingly over before half-time.

We started the second half as we closed out the first. On the attack and looking comfortable. However, in the 49th minute the visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot. Second half substitute Nuhiu dispatching the spot-kick after Jacob Murphy was felled in the box.

In the 66th minute Mitro bullied his way through three Sheffield Wednesday defenders and appeared to be clipped as looked to get a shot on goal. The contact audibly sounded substantial but the referee waved the protests away, much to the despair of the skipper.

In the 73rd minute, Kebano was back amongst the goals. After Harrison Reed had been felled just outside the box, the lively winger stepped up to take the free kick. With a wall packed full of robust Sheffield Wednesday players, Neeskens aimed low and blasted a cheeky shot underneath the wall and through a body of players. Wildsmith had no chance.

Sheffield Wednesday kept at it and in the 78th minute Jacob Murphy scored from distance to pull the deficit back to two, and in the 89th minute Nuhiu set up a nervy finish as he crashed a header into the back of the net from six-yards out.

However, in the first minute of injury time De Coerdova-Reid cannoned another effort into the back of the net from distance to ensure the three points remained in London. In a match brimming with events & moments Harrison Reed was shown a red card for a second yellow card after a mistimed tackle in the dying stages. An action-packed match down by the banks of the Thames.
